Pulau Ubin Trip (29 October 2010)

I am happy to be given the chance to go on a trip to Pulau Ubin.Apart from going there,I was also able to explore some parts in Pulau Ubin during the orienteering.I have learnt the proper way to use a compass and how to read a map.My group members took turns to use the compass and lead the group to the huts that we were supposed to go.We were so busy trying to fasten our pace so that the other groups would not overtake us that we did not study the routes on the map to the huts.Hence,we ended up taking the longer route instead of the shorter route.
We did not realized that until one of us spoke up and said that we have walking for about half an hour.Instantly,we stopped in our tracks and our instructor explained that we have taken the longer route. We learnt our mistakes and make sure we studied the map before finding the next hut.At the end of the day,I have learnt that teamwork and co-orperation from the team members is really inportant.Without it,we would not be able to get anything started. From this trip,I could now feel how it would be like to trek up Gunung Bintan!:)

The following pictures are pictures that were taken at PULAU UBIN!!!
This is a picture of the entrance to Pulau Ubin. Pulau Ubin is a small island situated in the North East of Singapore, to the west of Pulau Tekong. It is one of the last rural areasto be found in Singapore, with an abundance of natural flora and fauna.
Legend has it that Pulau Ubin was formed when three animals from Singapore (a frog, a pig and an elephant) challenged each other to a race to reach the shores of Johor. The animals that failed would turn to stone. All three came across many difficulties and were unable to reach the shores of Johor. Therefore, the elephant and pig together turned into Pulau Ubin whilst the frog became Pulau Sekudu or Frog Island.

This is a picture at the side of the entrance of Pulau Ubin. I love this picture very much as I
think its VERY beautiful.

As you can see the picture on the right is a picture of a Mamam Beach found in Pulau Ubin. I find the scenery there very nice. There is also a nearby toilet at the beach. However the toilet there are used by solar system. Hence the water there are not drinkable. This is also our 7th destination.

At the end of the day,I was glad that I had learned something from the trip. It was a great experienced to explore Pulau Ubin. I was surprised to find out that the rental for bicycles was $2!
